Oh, I'm still smug. Like a bug, though I respect the bug's autonomy, cause hey - vegan...
The story of the day involves recalls. Lots and lots of recalls. More than I can recall, in fact, in some time.
ConAgra Foods is - wait a minute, they're not recalling but they're
telling their customers not to eat their products while they investigate a possible salmonella outbreak surrounding chicken and turkey pot pies. They always seemed beige and sickly to me, so maybe this isn't a surprise. While there have been 139 cases of salmonella in 30 states, a recall hasn't been ordered yet, but, uh, "the company is recommending that people don't eat the Banquet turkey and chicken pot pies while the USDA and ConAgra look into these concerns."
Right...
Now, before we get too smug, this same company did issue a recall last year for salmonella, and it was peanut butter. Yes, good ol' vegan friendly peanut butter, which the vegan haters out there like to point out as proof that we're no different than anyone else when it comes to food safety.
But wait!
Another recall! Cargill Meat Solutions has
recalled 844,812 pounds of frozen ground beef patties, just days after Topps Meat Co. went out of business due to a 21.7 million pound beef recall.
Now, when peanut butter gets recalled and thrown out, how many lives are wasted? None? Huh. And when millions of pounds of ground beef get thrown out due to contamination, how many cows did that take up? More than none?
Yeah, that's why I'm still smug. And a little angry.
