If Spanish bullfights piss you off, don't go to Columbia. They've got something called a corraleja, which is like a Spanish bullfight, except there are hundreds of participants. And they have no training. And a lot of them are really really drunk.

On the bright side, the odds for the bull are somewhat better, since the bulls aren't usually killed during the fight, though they are terribly abused. The types and quantities of human injuries seem to be higher than, say, those inflicted at the Running of the Bulls festival, and deaths not uncommon (it's said that at least one death brings good luck.)

It's difficult to get people to turn their backs on "traditions" and "rites of passage" that have existed for a long time, but I've got to hope that people will eventually see compassion as a tradition worth being remembered for.
