What happened to Vegan Porn?

For those who don't know, VP was a news and information website for vegans and the veggie friendly that ran from 2001 to 2007. Picture the front page posts of this site, the booze list, and the Eazy Vegan combined with a relatively open discussion forum. In other words, a lot of the old site is here. True, the forums are gone, but there are many more features on the new site, with more being added every week.

Why'd you change the name of the site?

The old name used to work for two reasons: it kept the kind of people who would never visit a site with the word "porn" in it away (even if they were told a million times there wasn't any nudity), which helped keep the discussions fresh, and it lured in thousands of people from Google who were looking for the weirdest things - think of any word and add "porn" to the end of it, and it probably showed up in the logs at some point.

The trouble was, the advantages peaked in around 2004. We started to attract a slightly broader audience, yes, but the site never really was taken seriously outside of its core niche audience (who we loved and have no intention of abandoning). Taste Better isn't going to get all serious - we still want to keep that slightly flippant edge while promoting our message, we just don't want to have to fight off the puritan army at the same time.

Why doesn't the new site have the V-word in it?

It's part of a secret plan to infiltrate the flexitarians and get their poser asses over to team V. More on that later.

When are the forums coming back?

No idea. We're working on a lot of new features that have us really excited, and after 6+ years of semi-moderating a forum, it's time for a break. We hope you'll enjoy the new site!
