In a past life, I worked for a bank: Royal Bank of Canada, known in some parts of the ’states as RBC Centura I think. It was a bit of a pain in some activism situations: I’d explain that money could work on both sides of a problem, but anti-bank sentiment was high at the time and I sometimes felt that I wasn’t as credible, what with working for “the man.”
In the 2+ years since moving on, I haven’t missed the place as much as today: RBC is calling in Michael Vick’s loan of 2.3 million dollars, as they feel that he’s running out of time to pay it off, on account of being suspended from the NFL, losing all his major sponsors, and facing prison and all. Vick is the (former?) football guy who pleaded guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting ring last month, and I know my old department didn’t have anything to do with the decision, but it was nice to see aspects of my old and current lives intersect like that, even if they fund a bunch of other stuff I don’t agree with.
