Some days I’m so surrounded by stupid, it’s hard to tell what’s good in the world. Here’s something that’s good: we use a car sharing service called AutoShare. Basically we rent cars by the hour when we need them, and they’ve got a ton of locations near us. By doing this, we’re able to use a car when we need to pick up or deliver something big, but we don’t have to deal with the expense and time required to deal with actually owning a car.
So that’s all good. Now, for an example of stupid, try applying that business model to dogs. Yes, dogs. FLEXPETZ provides “flexible pet ownership” for people who really really want a doggy, but don’t want to pay for or take care of him or her. The service also offers multiple locations for people who travel and want a doggy woggy waiting for them in their destination city (and no, membership isn’t officially by the hour, but the idea’s the same, and math can make it hourly anyway).
Despite Knight Rider’s vision of the future, we don’t yet have talking cars, but as far as we can tell, cars aren’t sentient either, so if a rental car gets abused, it’s a hassle at worst. Dogs are sentient but can’t tell you how stupid they think you are for considering renting them out as fashion accessories. That’s where humans come in with that common sense thing that you may have read about, but sadly, it seems that simple logic is only available as an option in some people.
